Device Grading & Product Conditions

Any iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, and other Apple devices purchased from iRefurbished were previously used by others. To ensure that all of our devices have the same functionality and performance of brand new products, we test, clean and, if necessary, repair all important internal parts before reselling them to our customers. This means that from a technical stand-point, all iRefurbished devices are 100% functional. 

When it comes to grading external or cosmetic issues, we grade the external features of our devices into three product classifications: like new, slightly used, and visibly used. We always strive to be strict and provide the most accurate representation. In fact, many pre-graded devices that we receive from our suppliers will receive a lower rating from us. This means that our devices, especially in the second and third category, come with a better external condition than with most other suppliers.

Internal conditions

Before grading any of our devices, we thoroughly check them to ensure that they all function exactly like a brand new device. As part of this, either we or our partners analyze the iPhones, iPads, or Macbooks via a specialized maintenance software and also open them up to check for any internal issues. Only if our tests show that the device is 100% functional and there is no sign of any damage to components, we are confident to offer them to our customers. As such, the only differences between the different grading categories are their external, purely cosmetic conditions. Here is a brief summary of the technical aspects of every iRefurbished device:

  • Checked for more than 50 points (and 100% functionality)
  • 1 year warranty (optional extension to 2 years)
  • Simlock-free
  • Antibacterial treatment
  • Data wiping
  • Battery capacity: minimum 85%

Refurbished category: like new

Refurbished iPhones, iPads, or Macbooks are “like new” if they have no or minimal signs of use. Typically, these are new devices that have been used for less than 14 days, or that were rarely used and always protected by a back case and screen protector throughout its lifetime. If a “like new” device has signs of use, then it will only be very minor details, such as a single small dent around the edges or near the charger, or some fine scratches on the side or back. They will not have any signs of use that are immediately noticeable.

Refurbished category: slightly used

Refurbished iPhones, iPads, or Macbooks are “slightly used” if they have small signs of wear. Typically this includes light scratches on the case and screen, or slight marks from a protective cover. “Slightly used” devices are the most popular choice on iRefurbished, since these products still look fantastic while offering a great price point. Moreover, customers who pair their device with case and screen protection will make any signs of use virtually unnoticeable.

Refurbished category: visibly used

Refurbished iPhones, iPads, or Macbooks are “visibly used” if they have significant signs of wear. These devices often have noticeable and sometimes deeper scratches and marks on their housing and screen. However, since they still come with exactly the same functionality as better-looking devices, they offer a great opportunity for bargain hunters thanks to their affordability. Especially when combined with screen and housing protection, which can camouflage most scratches and marks, these products can still be a great purchase.
